  • Christian Nationalism

We promote pluralistic secularism as a way of achieving freedom and personal development for all. Christian Nationalism is a rejection of this idea, and demands adherence to an increasingly narrow, sectarian social, economic and political views.

Christianity is a religion that may be held privately. Nationalism is were allegiance to a nation (and political project) is given priority to everything else. Christian Nationalism is a political project with Christian symbolism and justifications.

The current form of Christian Nationalism as a movement is in the building phase where they reach out to partners and allies. A big tent approach. This includes people that many in the core of the movement dislike, like gay men, lesbians, atheists, and non-Christian religious folk who all agree with some form of traditional and/or Christian culture. 'Cultural Christians' who may be atheists but whose families celebrate Christmas and respect the teachings of Jesus as a way to teach morality to children. Or, if they oppose Muslims generally under the cover of opposing militant ideologies using Islamic symbolism.

Traditionally, exclusionary movements start with a big tent approach. But as they gain power and consolidate power they tend to push out former allies. For example, there used to be many trans gender conservatives who were given a lot of air time if they opposed trans activists, but have now been pushed out of the movement. Currently lesbians and some gay men are being promoted while they oppose trans activists. In Christian Nationalist circles more anti-same sex marriage and anti-gay rhetorical is on the rise.
