Job Aids
Welcome to COHA
As a COHA executive you are given a COHA email so people can send you email and we can list it without exposing your main email address. When you get one you may choose between two types of email addresses:
-
A normal email account that is separate for any other email accounts you have. You will check and respond to emails through this new account. You will need to setup you device (laptop, phone, etc) to check this email. You can do it via webmail through your web browser or an email program on your computer or app on your mobile device.
-
A forwarder address that isn't real, but simply forwards emails to your current email address. No change needs to happen on your end. You will just receive additional emails at your email address.
-
A normal email account with forwarder hybrid. We make a normal email account, but also have it forward emails to your regular email address. This way you will know if you got any email without checking and without setting up a new account on your phone. While you could respond from your real email account, you can also sign in to your COHA email account and respond there to keep your personal email address private.
-
Please indicate which you would like when you join the executive or as a special assistant.
-
Check out the executive roles so you know what you will be responsible for.
-
See below for information about your COHA email account.
-
Check out the yearly planning checklist to see what we need to plan for this year.
Webmail (through your browser) is at https://webmail.cohumanists.ca/.
First Sign In
When you first sign in you will be presented with a settings page.
- I recommend you change your password under 'edit your settings'
- You should click the box to open your inbox when you sign it.
- And remember that to change your password or go back to account settings click the orange CP icon for 'Webmail Home' in the middle of the left-hand menu in RoundCube.
See this webmail first sign in job aid that walks you through signing in, changing your password and setting up the above with pictures as I created for John last year.
Email Apps
To use an email app on your phone, like K-9 Mail, Spark, Gmail or other, or to use a program on your computer, like Thunderbird, Windows Mail, Apple Mail, Outlook or other, here are the settings. Some of these settings may be auto-detected by your email program, and you may not need to type these in. If you will be using multiple devices, including both webmail and an app on your phone, you will probably want to use IMAP.
Incoming IMAP/POP3 server
- Username: your full email address, such as yourname@cohumanists.ca
- Password: Use the email password sent to you
- Incoming Server: mail.cohumanists.ca
- Use IMAP port: 993
- If you want to use POP3 use port 995. Most people seem to use IMAP, especially if they use multiple devices to check their email.
- Use SSL/TLS, not STARTTLS. (TLS is the new standard.)
- Use the plain or plain text user authentication (it's still encrypted by TLS).
Sending/Outgoing Server setting:
- mail.cohumanists.ca
- SMTP Port: 465
- Use SSL/TLS. (TLS is the new standard. Don't use STARTTLS.)
- Use the plain or plain text user authentication (it's still encrypted by TLS).
